Teach With Games ~ Website review

I wanted to share a great site I have found called teachwithgames.com. This is a wonderful site, full of games you can play with your kids or even have your kids play against each other. Each game can be found based on subject such as math, language arts, science and so on.

After browsing and finding a game you would like to play you can download the game to your computer and print them out.

No need to register but you can if you would like to be notified of new games. This could turn into a very fun way to teach your kids and/or supplement their work.

BookAdventure.com

I came a cross this site a couple of months ago and thought it would be a great add on to our homeschool. It is called Book Adventure and it is a free site from Sylvan Learning Center.

This is how it works. Parents register their own account and then the children register their own accounts. Parents and children can search the database of over 7,000 books for the children to read based on interest. After the book has been read the children come back to the site and take a quiz on the book. this will tell the parents how well the child read the book as well as understood it.

I thought this was a great tool for our family. I have 3 kids reading different books at any given time and can find out how well they are reading and comprehending what they read.

Check it out and see if it works for you! http://www.bookadventure.com/

A Gentle Reminder

The Seven Wonders of the World
Author Unknown

Junior high school students in Chicago were
studying the Seven Wonders of the World. At
the end of the lesson, the students were asked
to list what they considered to be the Seven
Wonders of the World. Though there was some
disagreement, the following received the
most votes:

1. Egypt's Great Pyramids
2. The Taj Mahal in India
3. The Grand Canyon in Arizona
4. The Panama Canal
5. The Empire State Building
6. St. Peter's Basilica
7. China's Great Wall

While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one student, a quiet girl, hadn't turned in her paper yet. So she asked the girl if she was having trouble with her list. The quiet girl replied, "Yes, a little. I couldn't quite make up my mind because there were so many." The teacher said, "Well, tell us what you have, and maybe we can help."

The girl hesitated, then read, "I think the Seven Wonders of the World are:

1. to touch...
2. to taste...
3. to see...
4. to hear... (She hesitated a little, and then added...)
5. to feel...
6. to laugh...
7. and to love.

The room was so quiet, you could have heard a pin drop.

May this story serve as a gentle reminder to all of us that the things we overlook as simple and ordinary are often the most wonderful - and we don't have to travel anywhere special to experience them.

Enjoy your gifts!

Free Stuff from Supercharged Science

I stumbled across this site while I was playing around on Facebook tonight. It is called Supercharged Science. The site is made for homeschooling families to help with science lessons.

I came across the site because they had an ad on Facebook offering a free ebook with free science lessons. You can simply sign up for the ebook to be emailed or you can browse the site for the lessons. If you sign up for the email you will also be signing up for a weekly email with a new science lesson. Very nice. I personally like having the emails like that or I know I will forget.

Through browsing the site I also discovered links to other science sites, more science projects and articles. Very nice site you should check out.
